Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Where do the newborn sessions take place?
I have a studio located at 445 Baxter Avenue that is fully stocked with everything you will need for the session. All you need to bring is yourself and your sweet, new baby.
What can I expect for a newborn session?
First of all, I love photographing newborns! There is such a short period of time when they have that “brand new” look, and for that reason it’s important to schedule this session in the first two weeks of life. Generally, they will also stay nice and sleepy when they’re still that little! If you would to book a newborn session, we can set up a tentative time based on your due date, then just keep me updated as to when your little one actually arrives and we can adjust as needed. I have a whole studio full of fun props, hats, backdrops. I prefer to get babies down to their diapers (and naked), but if you have a “special” outfit you would like to use we can certainly accommodate that as well. If the weather is nice and you don’t mind, we can also take the little one outside for a few shots. I typically plan on spending 2-3 hours on newborn sessions, as there are always little breaks needed for feeding, changing, etc.
What time of day is best to schedule my outdoor session?
I am a natural light photographer, so for me, lighting is everything. I try to schedule all of my sessions in the evening. In my experience this time of day has the best lighting and is more more practical than shooting with the sunrise! I try to avoid the harsh midday lighting at all costs.
Where should we take the pictures?
When deciding on a location for an outdoor session, there are a few factors to consider. First, areas of open shade are best for lighting purposes. Second, be aware of the surroundings of the site, as they could become the blurred background to your images. Lastly, it’s important to think about the style of your portraits. Are you looking for traditional outdoorsy shots, or pictures with a more edgy and urban feel? All of these considerations should play a part in picking out a spot for your session. I’m happy to suggest locations as well if you don’t have one in mind. What should I wear for my session? For group pictures, it’s important to coordinate outfits, but not necessarily match. Think solids or unobtrusive patterns, as “wild” patterns will only take the focus away from you and your beautiful face! Denim always photographs wonderfully in both color and black and white. For individual portraits, you have a little more freedom in your wardrobe choices. Don’t be afraid to bring accessories that can really make a picture pop – scarves, fun hats, props, etc. This is especially true for individual children’s pictures, it’s great to let their personality shine through. Once you book your session, I would be happy to consult with you on wardrobe choices.
How do I book a session?
Simply contact me via any method on the “Contact” page of the website. We will nail down a date, and then I will give you instruction on paying your session fee. I have a 5-day grace period in which I will hold your date for you while I wait for the deposit. After 5 days I will open up that date for booking again, so don’t delay!
